Independence in Millbrook and more

Posted on Friday 3 July 2009

Welcome to July 2009. This means we’re six mere months away from 2010.

Dutchess County Wine Shops will only be open from 9am to 10am on July 4, which means for many small businesses, it is not worth it to open for one hour. An alternative is to swing by the Millbrook Winery, for those wine purchases, though the olive oil and view are quite wonderful too. 845-677-8383, 11 – 6.

Powerhouse Summer Suppers at Café on the Quad, on Friday and Saturday evenings – July 3 to August 1 – from 5:30 to 8:00pm (but not on July 4). Powerhouse patrons will now be able to relax, savor, and enjoy a selection of cuisines on five weekends this summer. Rotating basis by Arlington’s Babycakes Café, Beech Tree Grill (with desserts by Bittersweet), the Dubliner, Twisted Soul, and Zorona Restaurant. Between the Powerhouse Theater and the Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film on the Vassar campus. Wine and beer will be offered in addition to a menu sampling from each of the restaurants (cash only). July 3rd features the Dubliner. In addition, the Alumnae House, Friday and Saturday evenings [7/10-11, 7/17-18, 7/24-25, 7/31-8/1] Gigi Hudson Valley will offer “Hudson Valley Mediterranean” flavors starting at 6pm. The prix-fixe dinner menu, reservations (914) 388-7175. And Powerhouse patrons should save their ticket stubs as 17 Arlington restaurants will redeem them for a pre- and post- theater discount. Can’t watch theatre on an empty stomach.

Bard’s Summerscape SpiegelTent again has the SpiegelClub, a late-night bar and dance floor with music spun by New York City and local DJs. Thursday Night Live (8:30–11 pm), hosted by SpiegelMaestro Nik Quaife and WKZE Radio Archaeology DJ Raissa St. Pierre, features local Hudson Valley talent as well as New York City-area bands, singers, musicians, and poets. Food too, casual summer fare served each week at lunchtime on Saturday and Sunday (1–3 pm) and dinnertime on Thursday through Sunday (5:30–8 pm*). And, after a busy and stimulating weekend at SummerScape, chill at the Sunday SpiegelLounge (5:30–11 pm), where friends can enjoy the ambiance of the Spiegeltent in a convivial atmosphere featuring great music mixes, drinks, and small plates – but no live music! Check the schedule for performances. 845-758-7900 or fishercenter.bard.edu.

Ilana, could you include a call for Millbrook artists with studios who may be interested in being part of Dutchess County’s ArtEast studio tour October 17th and 18th? We need to add a couple artists and deadline is July 31st. Contact me at Tillystudio@aol.com
    Thanks!
